It is so easy to ABSOLUTELY do NOTHING at ALL in Placencia and not feel guilty about it. After a few crazy months of work and then visits to the hospital it was totally worth taking at least a couple days to relax on the beach, sway in a hammock and take siestas all day long in our beach side room.
“How can people get anything done around here?” commented Amber to me as she rolled in bed during her mid-morning nap. The sounds of the crashing waves are so therapeutic – coma inducing you might say. 😀 It’s hard to understand how anybody can get anything done in such a laid back and charming village.
It’s usually all about work when we travel and at times don’t even get some much needed time off to just unwind. Even though this trip involved work, we decided to stay an additional day in Placencia just to relax. The idea was to get some writing done. Needless to say, the cool Caribbean breeze, the smell of fresh salt air, the sound of the waves and the cozy accommodations at SeaSpray Hotel got the best of us.
SOLD! These travel bloggers were staying in.
Our room did not need air conditioning for us to quickly book it for two nights. The open view of the sea and a private balcony with a hammock and lounge chairs was more than enough.
SeaSpray Hotel is located along the famous Sidewalk and on the beach. A couple steps and you are taking a plunge into the warm sea, a few more steps lead you to all the hot spots in the village that include quaint gift and artisan shops, restaurants and bars.
Sunrise, Dolphins and Walks on the Beach
I make it a point to wake up and experience the sunrise everywhere I go. I’m an early bird and love to head to the beach to soak up the earl morning sun; Amber not so much, her mornings are reserved for sleep.
I was up at the crack of dawn. It’s pretty much automatic, I think my body senses the it. Sunrises are sooooo quite in Placencia; it’s very, very peaceful. Up and onto the beach, it’s pretty much deserted. You can have a piece of the beach all to yourself with an occasional jogger or resident walking his dog breaking the silence.
I saw dolphins just a few feet from the shore, piercing through the sun-reflecting waters. I was jealous of the lady who was in the water when the dolphins passed right next to her, as to say hello. The next day I was in the water, hoping for ‘flipper’ to come by. Nada! But I did enjoy a perfectly good swim in the warm sea and a sunrise view like no other.
This trip Placencia was more relaxing and therapeutic; kicking back my feet on the beach, quiet strolls on the Sidewalk, admiring the Supermoon, romantic dinners, lazy hammock siestas and peaceful nights.
Placencia struck gold with us on this trip.
Don’t Miss Out on Good Food at DeTatch Seafood Grill
Located on property at SeaSpray, DeTatch is hands down one of the most popular locally owned restaurant on the peninsula. The food is great; we had delicious fish fillet and shrimp specials one evening and the fried jacks for breakfast were equally delicious. We hear great things about their shrimp fried rice and pork chops, so we will most likely go for those on our next trip. With its extensive menu, picturesque location and friendly service DeTatch is the perfect choice for mouth-watering breakfast, lunch and dinner.
