“Slim and Trim Like Guava Limb” is what describes the new Guava Limb Cafe which just recently opened its doors in August of last year in the town of San Ignacio, Cayo. It’s a breath of fresh air to the up and coming ambiance and cuisine of the greater Cayo District. Guava Limb Cafe serves up a fresh, healthy and high quality menu that emphasizes on coffee drinks, pastries, sandwiches, signature salads and desserts.
A short walk down the popular Burns Avenue you find the small and quaint cafe which is located inside a resorted historical house which owners Lucy and Mick Fleming of Chaa Creek bought to preserve. They kept its identity of old Belize; a charming European look with decor that includes local handmade furniture from the wood shop at Chaa Creek and artwork from around the world.
The atmosphere is very homey, very Belizean, a Caribbean feel. The cafe has a great view overlooking the Macal Park where you can see a lazy San Ignacio throughout the day with school children playing and people strolling by; very relaxing and away from the busier Burns Avenue section.
Oh yeah, the food! Guava Limb Cafe is menu is very innovative with fantastic taste combinations. The food is organic in nature and fresh, with produce coming from the organic gardens at Chaa Creek. The chef is very creative in combining international and Belizean menu options with cuisines that include Asian, Central America, coffee shop and vegetarian.
It’s great that they keep their food light, ‘Slim and Trim’ like that of the guava tree. But still, their portions are very generous and filling, especially their signature salads that are prepared in large bowl. Their daily specials bring something new to the menu every day, including soups, pastas, seafood and even delicious tacos. You can check them out on Facebook.
Guava Limb Cafe is definitely a welcome addition to San Ignacio Town and the good buzz about the place has kept up since opening late last year. The cafe has a very relaxed atmosphere; it’s small but quite comfortable. You will definitely want to go back for more, especially wanting to try all of their specials that they keep adding every day.
